New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge Scugog Letter to Volunteers, Donors and Supporters

As many of you know, we recently asked the Mayors and Councils of the Townships of Uxbridge and Scugog to provide a long-overdue update on the animal shelter project.
Our letter was discussed during the Monday October 18th General Purpose & Administration Committee meeting of the Township of Uxbridge. During that meeting, the Uxbridge Mayor and some Councillors made statements that we feel must be addressed. Please see the included letter to the volunteers, donors and supporters of the New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge-Scugog.
As soon as we have additional information, we will share it with all of you.
We are optimistic that we can continue ahead in a respectful and positive relationship with both Townships to get this shelter built. Please feel free to contact your Councillor for more information and stay tuned for updates.
We will continue to be the voice for our community animals, and of course, you, the amazing donors and volunteers until the shelter is built!

NASUS 2020 Annual General Meeting (January 2021)
Leave a CommentDue to COVID-19 we held a virtual Annual General Meeting for the New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge-Scugog.
At this time we would ask anyone wishing to nominate a new Board member for the 2021 term to kindly reach out to NASUS President Tara Rosen via email (tara@tararosen.com) before the 15th of March 2021.
Barring any new appointees the Directors and Executive will all be re-elected in their existing roles. If additional nominees are put forth within that time period an electronic meeting of the Board will be held to discuss the nomination(s). Otherwise, the 2021 Executive and Board is expected to comprised of: President Tara Rosen, Vice-President Amy Stevenson, Treasurer Melinda Diebel, Secretary Susan Long, and Directors at large Paul Bussiere and Buck Sully.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our AGM this Monday!!
Thank you also to Mayor Dave Barton and Deputy CAO Debbie Leroux for joining our AGM and providing an update on the Township’s search for an additional funding partner.
We were also grateful to see Councillor Gary Ruona, Manager of By-Law Services Kristina Bergeron and Shelter Supervisor Emily Gerber in attendance.
Thank you also to some of our longer term volunteers and other Uxbridge and Scugog citizens who came out to ask some great questions and show their continued support for this project. Because of your input we had a great dialogue and some exciting new ideas were discussed.

Joint Press Release with the Townships of Uxbridge & Scugog (May 7, 2019)
Leave a CommentWhen NASUS was founded, our vision was simple ‘to build a facility that will meet the needs of our communities for the next 50 years or more’. That vision remains the same today.NASUS remains committed to building a durable, functional and adaptable shelter which will serve the needs of all of our citizens.Last week we had a very productive meeting with the Mayors of both Uxbridge and Scugog and other Township representatives.We share in the frustration felt over the delays to this project. However, we are gratified that the Townships are focused on fulfilling this promise to the townspeople of Uxbridge and Scugog, donors and sponsors of this project and the animals of our region.We look forward to working closely with the Townships to build a new shelter for Uxbridge & Scugog that we can be proud to call our own.Thank you to all our volunteers, donors & sponsors and municipal partners for your support, commitment and patience.

We are so excited and privileged that the Uxbridge Chamber of Commerce has chosen the New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge-Scugog as their partner charity for their annual Celebrity Server night.

POSTPONED: Ground-breaking & Appreciation Event
Leave a CommentOn Tuesday night, at the request of the Townships of Uxbridge and Scugog, the New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge-Scugog (“NASUS”) Executive Team met to discuss the status of the New Animal Shelter Project. At that time, we were advised that the Townships had been approached by the awarded IPD provider to discuss significant items yet to be negotiated.
Due to this delay, we will be postponing the ground-breaking and appreciation BBQ planned for this Saturday.
While NASUS and the Townships are very disappointed with this delay, we are encouraged by the Townships’ continuing commitment to getting the shovel in the ground.
Likewise, our Board of Directors is 100% determined to see this shelter built.
Thank you to our hundreds of volunteers, dozens of sponsors and other community partners for all your support and understanding as we navigate this complicated process.
As soon as we receive more information, we will keep you updated.
